Students Overcoming Academic Roadblocks Program (SOAR) is an academic recovery program designed to support undergraduate students who have a cumulative GPA below a 2.0. SOAR's mission is to empower students to take ownership of their academic journey by rebuilding confidence and developing effective habits and study strategies to succeed in college and beyond.Ìý

SOAR Program Participants

A student whose cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0 is no longer in academic good standing. The student will be placed on academic probation and automatically enrolled into the SOAR program. Students will be notified via email of their enrollment into the program prior to the start of the upcoming semester.

Duration of SOAR Participation

For the duration that a student’s cumulative GPA is below 2.0, the student will remain on academic probation. While on academic probation, students must continue to complete SOAR program requirements until good academic standing is achieved.

Participants are expected to complete engagements each semester while enrolled in the SOAR program. Engagements are designed to help students develop effective habits and study strategies. The components of the SOAR program are:

  • Completion of a study skills assessment – administered the firstÌýtime a student is enrolled into the SOAR program
  • At least one (1) meeting with a Peer Academic Leader (PAL)
  • At least one (1) meeting with the SOAR Academic Program Specialist
  • Satisfactory completion of an Academic Plan
  • Engagement with at least one (1) campus resource

First time SOAR participants may also be enrolled in ASK 100: Academic Skills or complete asynchronous online modules. Both modalities will cover a variety of topics including self-awareness, growth mindset, setting realistic goals, effective planning and time management, study strategies and skills, and understanding campus resources. Students can determine if they want to take ASK 100 or be enrolled into the asynchronous online module.
