University of Tampa again has been named a StormReady institution by the National Weather Service.

UTampa is one of 290 colleges and universities around the country to have the StormReady recognition. StormReady, established in 1999, is a nationwide program that helps communities better protect their residents during severe weather events. The program encourages communities to take a proactive approach in improving local hazardous weather operations.

UTampa was first designated a StormReady community in 2009. The University has its own online weather station and webcams and also has such communication methods as a text messaging service, an e-mail alert system, desktop alert capabilities and NWS chat capabilities.

The University also was named a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador™. The (WRN) Ambassador™ program is designed to strengthen partnerships with external organizations toward building community resilience in the face of increasing vulnerability to extreme weather, climate and water events.
